Aberdeen

The Scottish city of Aberdeen is the third largest in Scotland, with a population of over 190,000 people. The city is also known as the Granite City, the Silver City with the Golden Sands and the Grey City. This is because during the mid-19th century the buildings in Aberdeen were made in part by using locally sourced grey granite which appears to sparkle silver. The city attracts many tourists from all around with historical attractions such as St. Machar's Cathedral and a variety of museums, including the Tolbooth Museum.

Aberdeen has two major Universities, The Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen. The former was voted the best modern university in the United Kingdom by the Times Good University Guide. The latter was originally known as King's College which was founded in 1495 but then later redeveloped to become the University of today. Both universities possess a range of courses and in recent years the number of courses available has increased, allowing Aberdeen to increase its presence as an educational centre in the United Kingdom.
