Dundee

Dundee is a city of Scotland which is fourth in area and 51st in population rank in the United Kingdom. The population of Dundee was 148,270 in 2016. The density of population is 2,478/km^2. Dundee is in the second rank in population.

Geographic Dimension:

It is located on the north bank of the Firth of Tay. Dundee is at a distance of 36.1 miles from the north-north-east of Edinburgh and 360.6 miles from the north-north-west of London. There is local government system in the UK in which 32 council areas participate and Dundee is one of them.

Attraction:

When Dundee was the main Centre of Jute, Jam and Journalism in the 19^th century, then there was a rapid growth in the revolution of industry. So, Dundee is well renowned as the city of “Jute, Jam and Journalism”. Dundee is also famous by the name of “One city, Many Discoveries”. Jute employed one-fifth of the working population.

The main universities of Dundee are – the Abertay University and the University of Dundee. Dundee is the first UNESCO city which gives contribution in the fields of medical research, video games and comics. The main football clubs- Dundee United and Dundee F.C. are adjacent to each other. The Dundee Victoria and Albert Museum is expected to be open by 2018 which is of worth £80 million. In the 20^th century, there was a declination in the Jute industry because of the low demand for products of Jute. But after the post-war period, there was a sudden growth in the Jute business.

Administration:

Till 1996, Dundee’s administration was managed by the District Council of the city of Dundee. City chambers is the main location for Council meetings. Lord Provost is the term used collectively for the civic head and chair of the council. The leader of this council is named as the Leader of the Administration.
