Thanks to everyone who entered our "My Home Town" photography competition, in the end we had around 220 entries and a really high standard. The time has come to announce the winning photograph, with a free Silicon Beach Training course here in Brighton for the photographer: the winner will be able to choose any one or two day course with Social Media Training, Photoshop Training, Wordpress Training or Advanced Excel Training in Brighton, Sussex, being just a few of the training courses on offer.
There's only one winner, but entries were so impressive that we've also featured the six shortlisted runners up. Thanks to our fantastic photographer judges Miss Aniela and Pete Barr Watson who kindly took the time to pick a winner, based on Originality, Interpretation of the Theme and Composition.
For those who missed out last time, see our current "Summer" photography competition with an amazing Photoshop workshop for the winner.

So it's finally here! Apple CEO Tim Cook announced iOS 7 yesterday, hailing it as the "biggest change to iOS since the introduction of the iPhone". It's been long-awaited and much debated but now we can finally see what all the fuss is about. It's not going to be out for a while yet though, so now's the perfect time to learn how to create apps, on our iOS App Development Course. Now there a plenty of articles out there which go into great detail about the move away from skeuomorphism and others which wax lyrical over the new Control Center. We won't do that. |
We're going to give you the facts (7 of them to be precise) and a quick summary of the key points you need to know about each one. Just enough knowledge to rattle out to your friends over a skinny chai latte at your local vegan coffee shop (or some other lazily stereotypical hipster activity).
So let's dive into this new apple-y world full of flat buttons, Instagram-esque camera filters and mesmerising translucent displays and see what we can find.
1/ iOS 7 New Design
This is what all the hype is mostly about, and not without reason. The entire look and feel of the system has changed dramatically - modernised even. Take a look at this comparison between the design of the iOS6 and 7 home screen:
Gone are the shadows, the bevels and the semi-bold font. In come bright colours, flat-looking buttons and a thin, stylish type-face.

The MetOffice warn us of another 5 days of snow and below freezing temperatures. The Brighton bus services are as precarious as the pavements, and you are the only one that actually made it into the office. Time to make the same excuse as everyone else, it's a “snow day”!
But don't hide at home. Instead, head to your nearest cosy café or pub with wifi and work from there. No excuse not to be online, Social Media is definitely not having a snow day. We provide SEO Training, Email Marketing Training, Google Anlaytics Training and Photoshop Training, in Brighton, Sussex - just some of the skills you could learn to keep you busy when you can't get out.
Here is a list of my favourite free wifi across the centre of Brighton, from Kemp Town to Hove. They all have a great laid back atmosphere that might make you want to stay for longer than planned.

Jess Stephens, Managing Director at TagPoints blew away the judges to win the Silicon Beach Training Startup Competition in Brighton, Tues 22nd April 2014.
Competing against two other strong finalists in Sweta Chattopadhyay (Localfunded) and Jenni Macdonald (Precision Paraplanning), Jess gave a strong presentation highlighting the potential for TagPoints to grow which clearly impressed our judging panel; Darren Fell (Crunch), Caraline Brown (Midnight PR), Lisa Reynolds (Let Me Do That For You) & Mike Herd (Sussex Innovation Centre).
The judges were "blown away by the capability of the business and how fast it could scale" and while impressed by the other finalists, TagPoints were the clear winner on the day.
TagPoints now has the support of sponsors Silicon Beach Training, Crunch Accounting, Midnight PR and Clear Business Development to help grow the business and realise their ambitious plans.
